Thank you to those who responded to the feedback survey!

We received over 200 responses to the feedback survey—thank you to everyone who participated! Based on the feedback, UniMove is perceived as a high-quality, affordable, and versatile service. The main challenges are not related to the actual content of the sports services, but rather to accessibility (location and timing), the usability of the app and calendar, communication, and the imbalance between demand and the availability of sports activities.

Location

The offering is perceived as being too concentrated in Linnanmaa. More activities are desired in the city centre / Kontinkangas area. The universities’ own sports facilities are located on the Linnanmaa campus, which is why classes and sessions are focused there. Suitable sports facilities are especially scarce in the city centre, and municipal sports facilities are available only to a limited extent.

Timing and range of activities

Respondents wished for more classes and gym slots at different times. The calendar is planned based on available facilities and equipment, as well as the schedules and expertise of instructors. The aim has been to provide classes at various times, including mornings and weekends. Through cooperation with Easymove and Voitto, we can ensure a sufficient and diverse selection of guided classes. More skill-level groups were requested for ball sports sessions, and these have been added during the academic year based on previous feedback. We can continue to develop and clarify these levels and their descriptions as needed.

UniMove does not have its own gym but operates in facilities provided by other service providers. The gym at Linnanmaa Sports Centre is owned by the City of Oulu and is generally available to us on weekdays from 8:00 to 16:00, based on a rental agreement between the university and the city. The gym at Kastelli multipurpose centre is also a city facility, for which we apply for time slots for UniMove use. We have aimed to compensate for shortcomings in our gym services by negotiating benefits for UniMove members (student price at city gyms 1,80€ per visit and discounts at private gyms).

Overcrowding in classes

In the most popular activities, participant slots fill up quickly and demand exceeds supply. Whenever possible, we aim to add more popular classes/sessions to the calendar, but available facilities set limits on how much we can increase activities. Additionally, it is important for us to maintain a diverse offering, even if some activities have fewer participants.

To ensure that waiting lists for busy classes function properly, everyone should make sure to attend only the classes they have secured a spot in. It is also important to cancel registrations and confirm participation on time.

Calendar and app

Some feedback indicated that the calendar is confusing and difficult to use. The calendar includes tabs that allow users to filter events (instructed classes, team sports, gym, other activities). Since there are many events every day, browsing the calendar may initially feel challenging. However, the schedule largely repeats in a similar pattern from week to week throughout the semester.

If you encounter any issues with the app, we ask you to report them to us. This helps us investigate the matter with the system provider and resolve problems more effectively. We have compiled troubleshooting instructions in this news article.

Communication

Communication was perceived as insufficient, particularly regarding trial classes and courses. It was also felt that communication in English was inadequate. Our official communication channels are the website, the app, and the newsletter. These are available in both Finnish and English. By following these channels, you can stay informed about our events in both languages. Our social media channels are in Finnish, and there are currently no plans to change this. Courses and trials are listed on this page. Next academic year, we will improve communication about upcoming trials and courses in our official channels.

Classes are held in Finnish unless otherwise stated. If a class is in English, it is indicated in the calendar. In the English-language online store, courses and trial sessions are available where guidance in English can also be provided upon request.

UniMove instructors and game supervisors received a lot of praise from you. Our service is perceived as supporting well-being, particularly in terms of mental health and everyday coping. Please remember that you can send us feedback year-round via the app’s support centre or by emailing us directly at sports@oulu.fi.

Among all survey respondents, three 12-month memberships have been raffled. The winners have been notified by email.
